Amazing Charts Review

4.0 5 years ago

Comments: Overall, a great product that I would recommend. EHRs are going to be expensive, no matter where you purchase it from. This is a solid product, solid investment.

Pros:

Amazing Charts is very easy to use. It seems like a perfect transition for those who are still using paper records, to using electronic records. I have used it mostly to document patient visits and medical record review and it has consistently been very user friendly.

Cons:

Sometimes, all of the information on one screen can be overwhelming. It helps to have 2 monitors to spread out the information.

Stay away from this product!

1.0 3 years ago

Comments: Stay away. It is not worth your time or effort to deal with these clowns!

Pros:

It is cheap to start with but the expenses climb up pretty quick.

Cons:

There is absolutely no support. Even if you aren't a user of their system, I dare you to try to call ANYONE there. I have been trying for over 5 months to get support for my clients. Can't get a hold of online chat, phone support or anyone even in sales or HR. It's almost like they have closed their company down and just left the users to rot. Stay away from this software unless you know someone who can actually access the database (password locked by amazing charts and only they have the passwords) or any of the advanced tech tools (also locked). I have about 15 clients wanting to dump this software into the trash where it belongs.

We've been happy with Amzaing Charts

4.0 8 years ago

Pros:

This emr has a few very nice selling points. By far, the first is the price. We are a solo practice and I spent a year listening to emr presentations before settling on AC. That was in 2009. There were no emrs that could even come close to AC's cost and still provide the same features and support. I occasionally provide training at other offices in our area that have AC. All of my feedback in the last 5 years has been that these AC offices are able to just about anything those as those that forked out 10 or 20 times more for an emr. The Decision Support feature is fantastic. It is an editable tracking area that we use for all our HEIDIS, PCMH, and meaningful use needs. It was great to finally get rid of the huge ticker files for the yearly physicals, etc. Creating call lists for overdue screenings like colonoscopies and wellness visits can be done in minutes. Not only that, but they can be produced as an Excel spreadsheet instead of printed. AC also connects to an online fax service, Updox. Updox offers a basic patient portal and makes filing faxes easier. Incoming faxes can be sent directly to the patient's chart from the Updox program. It provides HIPPA compliant email, options to send documents to patients, and an option to allow patients to schedule their own appointments. The feature that sold us on this emr in the end is access to it's database. This topic doesn't often come up during emr sales pitches. I have heard several stories from other offices needing to switch emrs and finding out that their files wouldn't transfer or there would be some new fee to make it happen. We have been able to create custom lists with this access for anything that we couldn't do within the emr program itself.

Cons:

The customer support typically responds within minutes if we contact them through online chat at their website. I have never been able to call and have their support phone answered though. They will often log into whichever computer is having a problem and fix it on the spot. It is probably best to have someone in the office that has some experience with computers. That isn't always a common employee skill which makes paying more for onsite support sound more comforting.

Loved it but became very pricy

5.0 8 years ago

Comments: I have been using AC for more than 3 years, It made my life beautiful.
The problem is that any functionality you need to use (Like patient portal, electronic labs requests, e-prescriptions) is an additional cost to your subscription. I pay $$$$ for the certificate but I have to pay for the customer service another $$$$, now , for patients portal $110 per month , for narcotics e- prescriptions $$$ , for lab corp $$$, for Quest $$$ , lately they called me trying to sell me CCM (chronic care management) , usually we collect on average $$ per patient per month, AC wants to charge me $$ per patient per month. My nurse practitioner have to subscribe as a FULL user which double the price.
As for online access, they charge $$ per user per month for our staff, so I have 2 front desk, 1 back desk, 1 MA , 1 manager , 1 Biller , 1 doctor and 1 ARNP , total users of 8 equal to $$$ per month
THIS IS A RIP OFF
I love it but I can't keep up with their greed. time to change

Pros:

easy to use

Cons:

very expensive

Dr. Nana, we are sorry you feel that costs have increased, but the reality is that Amazing Charts is one the most affordable EHR solutions. We must correct a few inaccuracies. A few of the costs you describe are for extra functionality, which you chose to add. The Patient Portal required for MU is included; you are paying for a more robust portal from Updox. eRx is included; any costs for EPCS are paid to a third party. All EHR vendors charge fees for interfaces, and our costs are competitive. There is a one-time fee of $750 per interface (often covered by the lab), and annual maintenance of $150 per interface, with discounts for multiple interfaces, You paid $1,200 once for a lifetime license. You pay $1,195 annually for service, support, and upgrades. An NP is a level-one provider if they sign-off charts and prescribe. Dr. Nana, we encourage you to shop around and compare prices for everything you get today. Amazing Charts will be your most affordable choice.

Almost everything you need on one screen!

5.0 7 years ago

Comments: This my 3rd EMR and my favorite. With supervision of Nurse Practitioners in other locations I've seen other EHR's and this one is the best. The worst are the ones with nothing but clicks and drop-down menus or just being able to show one screen at a time (one I use limits the progress note to the whole screen, can't even see the med list). Support is good despite some criticism. I primarily use the online chat. It's rare that I can't get someone on chat who can walk me through it or take control of the PC and fix it. I use a local server and it's fine, can't afford to lose my EMR if the internet goes down. Cloud based is available.

Pros:

Having all these on one screen in separate boxes is great: CC, HPI, ROS, PMH, SOC Hx, Meds, VS, PE/MSE, Dx, Plan and buttons to write Rx or order labs. E-prescribing easy, all pharmacies listed. Make your own templates easily from any screen. Very little clicking and radio buttons which is good if you can type, not so great if you type slowly (can use 3rd party dictation software). Fax, lab integration is good, being able to scan and import as docs, pdf is good.

Cons:

NewCrops electronic prescribing of controlled substance is cumbersome due to Verizon but they are discontinuing at the end of February and the new vendor Exostar is supposed to be better and reduced clicks. Report generation and letter writer could be improved. Font sizing would be nice feature. Portal integrated with Updox is not particularly helpful or user-friendly and I don't even use it.

Deteriorating customer service and product functionality

3.0 4 years ago

Comments: For those of you who plan to use EHR's as I have since 1990, be very careful. Once you have made your choice of systems you are really a prisoner of that system. The cost and disruption of switching is prohibitive. If I were earlier in my career, I would switch to something that is more dependable with excellent customer service. I would NOT use Amazing Charts. Since I am late in my career I am totally frustrated about how I will hold on with this defective EHR and poor service.

Pros:

When the EHR was produced many years ago it was simple, fast, and would run on any computer no matter how basic. Not now.

Cons:

I have been an AC user since 2003. The EHR has steadily gotten more complex, buggy, and difficult to maintain. The customer service is pathetic. When a problem develops their watchword is, "blame the customer." They do not respond to service requests in a timely manner. Sometimes they don't respond at all. Our most recent problems have been going on for weeks, but no resolution.

Great idea, terrible execution, nonexistent support

2.0 3 years ago

Comments: I would never use this product again. The software bugs combined with their inept tech support model make for a horrible experience. We just switched to insync EHR, and I cannot believe how many hours per week I have wasted futzing with this piece of garbage software (amazing charts). It is amazingly crappy, so I guess the name fits.

Pros:

Easy to see entire note in progress at once. Software is theoretically simple and therefore easy to use. Easy to teach new staff.

Cons:

Bugs bugs bugs. The software is unstable, worse after the last update. It is very hard to get through an hour without having a technical problem for each user. Support is virtually nonexistent. I am the doctor and IT professional in our small office (which is who AC markets to). When I call tech support, they force you to leave a message. When they call back, they will not answer the question to my staff nor wait for me to come to the phone (I am usually in a patient room). So I end up in constant phone tag with them and give up. Probably an intentional model to reduce calls. Horrible service.

Amazing Charts

3.0 5 years ago

Comments: Once I get a call or email back from A.C. its ok. My overall experience is just "ok". It wouldn't be my first choice in software if I had to pick all over again.

Pros:

Documenting a visit on a patient is easy for the providers. I like that it is connected the Immunization Registry and Updocs.

Cons:

I don't like the customer service/technical support. When you call then for help you never get a live person. You have to leave a message and they don't get back with you for a couple days. The same goes for email. They are suppose to have "live" support but they don't have live support after 2 pm MST. If they do, I never get ahold of anyone. I also don't like the Practice Management side of the software. Not easy to use and you still have to "batch" charges to send claims, which I think is very old-fashioned. My Medical Assistants don't like the immunization documenting because it's hard to find and not easy to print.

Customer service down the toilet in spite $1600/year annual support fees.

4.0 2 years ago

Pros:

Amazing charts is intuitive and most things are found on the main screen.

Cons:

If you DO need help, forget about it. Live Chat is completely unmanned. Email support ticket opens automatically and nobody gets back to you. (I've been waiting 3 weeks now). Also, due to their own problems failures, they require urgent upgrades. They're nearly impossible to schedule, you have to pay hundreds of extra dollars and the upgrade invariably introduces new problems.

Pleasantly surprised that an EMR actually DID make my life easier

5.0 11 years ago

Comments: I am a family physician. I am young enough that I started learning on both paper charts and EMRs. During my rotations in school and residency, I got try out lots of different EMRs. There are nice things about them...you can read what you wrote, you can have templates for the times you repeat yourself, you can search for particular diagnoses or ages to make sure you're catching all the patient care opportunities...but by and large, they are clunky and inconvenient to use. Paper charts are quick...you jot a few notes during the appointment, sign it, and you're done. What I like most about Amazing Charts is that it holds onto that ease of the paper chart while allowing you the conveniences of an electronic record. Everything you need for most appointments is right there on one screen. So many EMRs require you to click through multiple windows before you actually get to what you need. With AC, I left click in a box to type in it or right click to pull up my templates. I can double click to open a larger window (useful for long past medical history lists). The chart itself has tabs along the top so I don't have to close what I'm doing and open a new window to view labs, I just click over to the correct tab, just like a paper chart...except that instead of flipping through an inch of pages to find the correct lab, there's a nice tidy clickable list. To do any number of things (enter a tickler, print a variety of documents, view the medication list) you just right click on the patient's name. To view the history of a particular medication, just right click again. My biggest complaint with AC is that it takes awhile to discover all these little conveniences. I don't even know half of what it does. Then I'll happen to click on something I hadn't clicked on before (or right click or double click) and I'll find myself in a whole new world of cool things it does. I've been using AC for a year now and was really happy with it from the start and continue to be glad I chose it. I am planning on continuing to use AC long term and have no major gripes with it.

The product is very user friendly for the most part

4.0 6 years ago

Comments: We have recommended this product to 6 other practices that all currently use. Each practice has its own customization and each practice prefers this over many other EMRs. Overall a good user friendly product

Pros:

Easy to use, reasonably priced per provider, tech support knows how to fix a problem, you can add additional features that fit your practice (at a price), latest version is MIPS certified

Cons:

MIPS system is somewhat complicated to use and sometimes requires retraining staff, upgrading to newest version no longer has free tech support, tech support takes about 24 hours to get back to you, the more you add to the system the more it costs, when using non cloud based version updates must be done on server and each work station individually

I would never go back to Amazing Charts

1.0 9 years ago

Pros:

Based on my original needs I did like the license and support pricing; and the progress note visual at the time, when my Direct Primary Care practice was young and small. Also liked HPI/ PMH/FH templates which are not necessarily available in other EMRs but which I can live without. Ability to connect with Updox, but too many steps to have patient communications in their files

Cons:

Poor service- must start a ticket which takes forever to be answered. Immediate Chat is not necessarily available when you need it the most. Customer reps service and courtesy varies, depending on the person on the phone (feels as if company did not have a mission, vision and core values to live by). Cloud service- It is not a real Cloud access, but logging in to their server via remote; making process very slow and inefficient. Usability: Platform crashes constantly. Can not open more than one patient at a time. Can't copy and paste from a note unless it is signed off. There is no problem list to go by. Many others

The Best EHR for Small Medical Practices

5.0 8 years ago

Comments: I installed Amazing Charts on one of the desktop computers over one weekend in 2007 and started using it on Monday without any need for training from anyone. The online tutorials are adequate for most if not all users. The EHR itself is very self-intuitive and easy to use. I recommend transitioning from your paper charts to fully EHR over 3 to 4 months. Best if used with voice recognition software, like Dragon Naturally Speaking Medical Edition.
In terms of cost, convenience, ease of use, features and functionality and the best customer support, one cannot beat Amazing Charts. It is simply the best EHR for physicians who want to do what they like best, i.e. see and communicate with patients, and who don't want to spend their entire day being data entry professionals!

Pros:

Ease of use, excellent customer service, polite and courteous customer service reps, looks and feels like a standard paper chart, simple user intuitive interface.

Cons:

Meaningful use data compilation can be time consuming. Medication data entry could be improved.

simplistic ehr system

4.0 5 years ago

Comments: Overall, this ehr system was helpful for when I have to work with patients as a receptionist for my clinic.

Pros:

Pros I found about this system is that it is user friendly and very simplistic. Everything on amazing charts is very direct of what you need. When I book for appointments, it is very quick and easy which I appreciate!

Cons:

Some cons I found in this software is that when booking appointments, there is a limit of how much you can write for the reason of the patients appointment. Although the software is very simplistic, the EHR is aesthetically very bland. Lastly, I find it that amazing charts has a long wait time for it to start up when you first log in.

Comments: I am a pediatric solo practitioner with one nurse practitioner. I have been using Amazing Charts for 9 years. I was initially drawn to it because of its simplicity. It was consistent with the way I have always charted and the price was right. I compared it with many other programs and have continued to watch what else is out there, but am amazed that nothing seems so intuitive. I like the fact that my database is on site, not in the cloud. I can continue to work when the Internet goes down. I have had residents and nurse practice student that I can get up and running in a couple of hours. Generally they will follow me for a day then I will set them down on a tutorial. After that, they are essentially on their own, with me reviewing and tweaking their H&Ps. Amazing Charts has fairly frequent updates and usually everything goes smoothly, but occasionally I will call support. It is usually quick and they are very engaging. I see 20-30 patients a day and rarely leave charts undone at the end of the day. My notes are much more complete that prior to using an EHR. I can recall and pull patients very fast. Oh, and I have reclaimed a lot of space that previously was used to store paper charts.

Amazing Charts EMR

Comments: I am a long time user [2002]. I would enjoy the program more if there were not so much clutter because of Federal mandates. The electronic prescription service works exceptionally well. Printing speed is good and has never crashed because of Amazing Charts. Thanks for the hard work which has improved my practice. gmm
