Reviews of DigitalOcean
Alternatives Considered:
My new favourite cloud provider.
Comments: Porting my app to DigitalOcean was an absolute breeze. We went looking for a platform as a service provider that could replace Heroku without losing all the zero-config creature comforts we have come to expect, and DigitalOcean has more than met the mark. We are confident that we will have every need met throughout our scaling journey, and that the pricing will be fair all the way up.
Pros:
DigitalOcean is the simplest and most cost-effective platform-as-a-service provider I have ever used. Their simplicity does not come at additional cost unlike Heroku, and they have all the tooling and infrastructure to manage your every cloud need. Their documentation is spectacular, and their support is second to none.
Cons:
If there are any cons to using DigitalOcean, I haven't encountered them yet. My experience so far has been absolutely flawless and I am a very happy customer.
Alternatives Considered:
Very good hoster
Comments:
Very good experience, there are good options but marketplace's images needs to be updated or deleted.
Very good hoster to build website or apps.
Pros:
Easy to create droplets with a lot of options Good panel with simples options, good for beginners
Cons:
Price is a little bit high for some products (Databases for example) Marketplace's apps are not up to date for many (example: Airbyte)
Nightmare company erased all our data and backups
Pros:
It seemed reliable but isn´t - it´s a horror company.
Cons:
I have used digital ocean for more than 7 years. Now comes the horror. I was on a summer trip for about a month and really took a digital detox time. Within this period, our company credit card was outdated, so the monthly payment couldn´t be processed. When I saw this, I immeadiately used another payment service and took care of the bill. However, DigitalOcean had already erased all our company data and back-ups. A project worth more than 150 thousand EUROS was just erased. According to DigitalOcean the data is gone forever and they told me don´t worry you can just start a new one. To everyone out there, the company is not trustworthy and doesn´t care about you. Watch out and better find an alternative, usually data is stored in backups and not 100% erased within such a short period. Moreover, customer service really bad - unbelievable.
Simple and affordable hosting that gets the job done!
Pros:
Pricing is one of the best things about DigitalOcean. You get really affordable options without sacrificing too much in terms of performance, which is a win-win.
Cons:
Support could use some improvement. When things go wrong, it sometimes takes a bit longer to get the help you need.
Alternatives Considered:
from good to perfect
Comments: Digital ocean was my first IaaS and it is so easy to start learning how it works, i have deploy 4 backend servers and i feel confortable when i think of creating more of them in digital ocean, so the only thing that is left is funtions (like AWS with lambda funtions)
Pros:
I love GUI, how easy it´s to deploy a react app with a droplet o a backend with nodejs
Cons:
I had some issues with my spaces and contacted customer service around 3 time and they didn´t give a solution
Alternatives Considered:
Great boxes, simple pricing!
Comments: Been pretty hands off, I like it. Transparent pricing, never an issue with uptime.
Pros:
Easy to set up a server and modify them. DigitalOcean integrates seamlessly with Forge which was great. Lots of support docs which helped me set up my own linux server from scratch!
Cons:
A tiny bit confusing if you don't know the terms.
Cost savings, flexible and scalable solution to try.
Comments: This is a software that helps us easily compete and succeed. Fast monetization.
Pros:
This IaaS eliminates the responsibility of owning, deploying, maintaining and managing physical infrastructure. The features are reliable and easy to use to everyone.
Cons:
Low internet speed or fluctuating supply would really cost the user. We really struggled before realizing this.
Instant usage of droplets with customized compute resources.
Pros:
It's one of my go-to tools for creating multiple droplet with compute resource customizable for me and can spin up them simultaneously, ssh in to them to run in parallel for my recon process in application security testing. Also, it offers 100$ credits for free to new users which I availed during my initial usage.
Cons:
Free tier could offer some more storage for the container registry.
A very good experience despite the prices
Comments: I had a great experience with digital ocean. The support team has always been there for any problem, and usually respond within a day. The only con is related to th prices
Pros:
Very simple UI, an effective and fast support. Also, everything needed is present.
Cons:
The prices are a bit high, and VAT-excluded.
A good Cloud Service for juniors
Pros:
The UI is very simple to use. Deploy databases and instances is a really easy task.
Cons:
I think Digital Ocean is too expensive, there are some cheaper options
Alternatives Considered:
Digital Ocean is in my top 5 for hosting solutions
Comments: Digital Ocean accomodates all kind of public. I use it's services for my small to medium business websites, for hosting, databases and backup. I also deploy my internal tools there. It's affordable, reliable and also plays nice with others.
Pros:
You can depend on Digital Ocean. It's server are very sturdy, you can choose from a very wide range of options and everything is documented.
Cons:
It's complicated to setup properly, but it's getting better every day. This is not Digital Ocean's fault, Cloud Computing is though.

Deploying Linux or open-source software? Use DigitalOcean
Comments: In a word -- superb on all fronts -- as an example, we were replicating a certain image type that wouldn't work -- any time we'd load the image on a new box, it would fail. It turned out to be a very specific issue around the length of the image name on a specific Debian release -- the DigitalOcean support team figured it out, and looped back with us, long after we'd simply rebuilt the image.
Pros:
The most amazingly refreshing platform to use in a long time, especially for back-end work. We'd switched from AWS, which was incredibly cumbersome to administer.
Cons:
We sometimes have had to migrate between data centers because the machines we wanted in the data center in which we already had nodes didn't have the same node available for scaling.
Alternatives Considered:
The best cloud computing company I have ever used
Comments: I build custom software for clients and have some SaaS products hosted on the platform. Their data security, availability and high velocity servers make me confident to do my job while they keep it online. I'm a completely happy costumer! They are providing me a perfect experience for more than 4 years.
Pros:
The awesome user interface of the product is a killing feature, ages ahead of competition. I love how simple and efficient everything is, from deploying a new droplet to asking for support. They offer an excellent service at very low cost. They helped me starting my business, teaching me with their free tutorials how to build and manage servers.
Cons:
I would love to see investments on a Brazilian datacenter. This is the only missing feature for me.

Pros:
It is quite simple to host Web Applications in DigitalOcean. It provides a lot of useful options in the Control panel which makes our life easy.We can schedule a backup in DigitalOcean as per our needs. Connecting a database to our application is simple.

The DigitalOcean Review
Comments: My overall experience using Digital Ocean was awesome.
Pros:
I have been using Digital Ocean for some time now and I can say that it is very easy to use. Also, it is one of the best VPS providers in the market. It is not that expensive. Also, you can rely on their services.
Cons:
There are no cons to using this software but I think that they should include more server locations so that response time can be minimized.
Best Cloud Hosting for Developers with Wonderful User Interface and Tutorials
Comments: Overall I am quite happy with the way DigitalOcean is. Currently my site is hosted on DigitalOcean and loads quickly. A faster loading site means more visitors and more visitors means more income generating possibilities. Spinning new servers from images save lot of time.
Pros:
Things that I like about DigitalOcean are 1) You get power of cloud computing at some discount compared to Amazon and Google. 2) Nice and intuitive dashboard. 3) You can provision new servers in around 60 seconds. 4) Developer friendly. 5) Ability to collaborate with teams. 6) Predictable pricing. 7) Scale up as you grow. 8) Can enable IPv6 for the server. 9) Get to know various monitoring metrics like CPU and RAM consumption, disk usage, bandwidth consumption in the dashboard at a minimal interval of 5 minutes. You can see these usage for last 14 days. 10) Take backups and snapshots incase of anything goes wrong. 11) Easy to configure Firewall. 12) Can increase disk space easily by adding Block Storage to the droplets. 13) DigitalOceans Spaces can be used to offload static files for as low as $5 for 1TB CDN bandwidth and reduce load on server. 14) DigitalOcean has one of the best knowledge base and how to articles to get you started or get out if you are stuck. 15) Create alerts to receive email notification 16) Get email notification when monthly spending reaches your defined threshold.
Cons:
Things that I don't like about DigitalOcean are 1) You have to turn off the droplet to scale up or scale down. 2) Information regarding DDoS attacks on droplets should also me made available in the control panel. 3) Backups and Snapshots costs extra and are pricy. 4) Does not accept prepaid cards for payments.

Made for developers, ready for production, powers my whole business
Comments: Being able to combine different resources the way I need gives me the maximum flexibility to offer the optimal solutions to my customers. Almost all important web services providers have almost impossible to understand pricing calculators - pretending that this extremely insane granulation will make you obtain the optimal cost effective solution. It may be true for a large organisation, but for small companies like mine, a simple and straight-forward pricing model like the one digitalocean has is more than enough and makes me not waste my precious programming hours.
Pros:
I have tried different VPS solutions, looking for a reliable, easy to use and cost effective solution for my web apps and websites. Finally I've ended up migrating almost all my work to Digitalocean, my being a developer who does not wish to waste too much time with sys admin issues. Everything comes handy and is easy to understand. A big plus for me, working mainly the EU market is that I can host my VPS's in the EU, so that I may comply to the GDPR requirements. I just love it.
Cons:
I really have no complaints. Everything works smoothly
A cheap, but powerful, way of hosting projects
Comments: I have found DigitalOcean to be incredibly useful, extensible, and cheap. The learning curve was very steep, for someone not really used to using the command line. However, once I'd put in the initial work, I now have a very capable setup.
Pros:
For basic use, the lowest tier (or Droplet, in DigitalOcean speak) is very attractive. Regular automatic backups can be added for a small fee, and Droplets can be increased in size and power very easily to match your needs. It really is a blank slate, so you can install pretty much any software onto a Droplet.
Cons:
It can be quite intimidating to have to set up everything yourself. If you're coming from a regular hosting service, such as GoDaddy or Heart Internet, the amount of steps involved to just get a basic server up and running, coupled with keeping everything safe from security loopholes and hacking attempts, can be off-putting.
Great Cloud Computing Service for any Business
Pros:
I like the simplicity of the interface to manage our instances (droplets). The marketplace offers fast deployments of a variety of web apps and cloud software that speed up our development processes.
Cons:
The only con I have experienced with Digital Ocean was a slow response from customer support when having trouble disabling the 2-factor authentication. Aside from that, DigitalOcean customer support has been helpful and kind.
Best Budget Cloud Service Provider
Comments: Its very good cloud service provider.
Pros:
Digital Oceans very helpful for our small startup company, Its provide droplets and database droplets based our budget.
Cons:
Based on our requirements and usage there was no least about DigitalOcean.
Personal Experience
Comments: I'm an email marketer, and I use DigitalOcean droplets to create virtual private servers to host my SMTP server, which allows me to send emails to my list.
Pros:
It is one of the simplest ways to set up a VPS, and you can choose from a variety of operating systems such as Ubuntu. There are numerous droplets to choose from, each with a different price. The best part is the free trial period that they provide when you register, which allows you to try everything they offer for free.
Cons:
What I dislike the most is that it has a bad reputation, so if you decide to use it as your email marketing server, you should be aware that it will be blacklisted the majority of the time. Furthermore, they make no effort to prevent spammers from using their services.
Alternatives Considered:
Great platform for Kubernetes deployments

Cons:
Kubernetes service still evolving which involves breaking changes at times, costs can grow quite large

Comments: Use DigitalOcean to host my servers which run my own websites & web applications. Never had a problem, 99.999% uptime. Would highly recommend
Pros:
