Reviews of EMC SourceOne
Reliable email archive solution with easy user interface
Comments: We needed a way to archive older email to cheaper storage while giving users power to manage their archives. That’s what we got.
Pros:
Easy-to-use, simple user interface. Intuitive use of filters for searching and restoring. For a tool dedicated to managing your email archive, not a lot of bells and whistles are needed, and you get just what you need.
Cons:
From an end user perspective, it’s perfect. The only challenge we have had has been product migrations from one storage platform to another. You absolutely must involve Support for this.
Source one is the best archiving solution available for on premisis
Comments: Best archiving solution ever used for my exchange services
Pros:
Source one is easy manageable and understandable with more features to keep your email and disk space saved.
Cons:
Source should should have more regular updates and features introduced to keep it update with other products
Email (and more) archiving solution which brings some complexity in - use only if really needed
Comments: reduce storage footprint on exchange server, but at some cost.
Pros:
This product addresses the business need of archiving, and is specifically aimed at email archiving and sharepoint. We have been using it in order to reduce the size of the huge Exchange mailboxes of our users. We did not look into sharepoint archiving much. Emails or other Exchange items are replaced with a stub, which is a pointer to the database where the real item has been moved. Another 'light' option is to remove only attachments and replace them with stubs. Either way, the product works fine and enables the admins to reduce the exchange mailbox footprint. My doubts are more related to the real need of implementing such a complex piece of technology, since nowadays Exchange offers online archive which is a way easier solution to the same issue.
Cons:
Issues appear from time to time, as stubs cannot be retrieved. Another issue is also that at times business need will want to bring all the items back (reinflate the mailbox), which may be tricky for huge mailboxes. The jobs will run for a long time, producing a huge amounts of logs in exchange, which will put your partitions at risk and could bring the database offline in certain cases. Updates to the product can be tricky, we had to involve EMC consultants for various days at some point.
How does SourceOne shrink Exchange 2010 Mailbox Database
Comments: 1. I would like to know how SourceOne shrinks the exchange mailbox database (edb) after archiving has completed, the size of the databases (edbs) are not changing. What configurations need to be done on SourceOne to shrink the database size. 2. Does SourceOne file archiving work with volumes that have de-duplication enabled. I have tried other products for file archiving but they are failing because my volumes are de-duplication enabled.
Pros:
ease of use, easy to retrieve archived emails
Cons:
Exchange Database(edb) not reducing size after archiving has completed
