Great Board Management Tool!

5.0 3 years ago

Comments: Having board files in one location will cut down on the amount of Trustees needing me to track things down and will serve as a secondary backup of our precious files. Customer service is astounding, especially compared to what I experienced or see available with a more expensive, similar platform I demoed, and the interface is more modern than the other platform as well. So OnBoard looks and feels great and was well received. My life has improved since adding this feature, saving hours with creating Board materials.

Pros:

This was a great cloud-based portal for full management of board materials, easy creation of Board Books, and creation of an archive in one location. This replaced a home-brewed portal that was difficult to use and clunky. Now, I can easily create and update board books instead of wasting precious time making manual, difficult updates using Adobe Pro. Great customer support.

Cons:

Some features we don't have since unfortunately they cost extra. We also have a difficult usage case that has required some workarounds but that is on us for being complicated. I hope one day they allow more than one Zoom platform to be connected to the account.

Alternatives Considered: BoardEffect

Reasons for Choosing OnBoard: Our home brewed Drupal solution was hard to use and our IT Department required too many hoops to use off the company property. With OnBoard, you can log in securely through MFA at home or at work, which is much easier for Trustees to use, and OnBoard is easier to both manage and use than our home brewed product.

Reasons for Switching to OnBoard: Cost, customer support, comparison of experiences with sales reps, how the competing sales rep treated me when I said we picked OnBoard, and the look of the interface

OnBoard-Get On Board

5.0 last year

Comments: I really love working with OnBoard. It is easy to use for the end-user and was an easy adoption for them. As an admin, I can set permissions to various employees, and they can upload documents without my intervention. I like that new features are always coming out to test/try. The company continues to grow, but I have not seen any negative effects of it.

Pros:

The features which I love about OnBoard are the e-signature and approval options. I am able to create surveys and get results much quicker as users are already used to the OnBoard portal. e-signatures were critical during COVID as we couldn't meet in person, but I needed signatures for approval of documents. I also love the customer support of my relationship manager. They are always listening on how to improve the product. Innovative is necessary in an electronic world.

Cons:

The minutes feature is a work in progress. I am sure it works fine for some organizations, just not me. I do not like the fact that the pre-form automatically creates links of documents in the meeting minutes. Starting from scratch is cumbersome as well. They have taken my comments into consideration. Perhaps there will be a third option someday.

"Core features" require add-ons for full functionality

3.0 2 years ago

Comments: Be sure to keep everything in writing! Requests made during face-to-face renewal meetings will not be honored unless you follow up by email to confirm them. Especially be sure to document any requests to remove or swap add-ons.

Pros:

Having all of our meetings and documents available to the board in one place has been fantastic! No more lost emails.

Cons:

The core features are barely functional on their own and require multiple add-ons for full functionality for most boards.

Alternatives Considered: BoardPro, Shaparency and Easy Board

Reasons for Switching to OnBoard: Because Trent was amazing and worked with me as I convinced the board to adopt Board Management Software. I also had seen reviews that OnBoard excelled at customer service.

OnBoard for Board and Committee Management

4.0 last year

Comments: We are solving the need to house all meeting materials in one, central, accessible platform.

Pros:

The feature that is most impactful to our organization's use is having meeting materials all in one place, eliminating the need to print materials and distribute to members.

Cons:

My lease favorite part of OnBoard is reliability. There are times that the meeting book will not build. That does not work when needing to present at a meeting, or when members need to view the materials and vote. I am also disappointed with the Customer Service response when lodging a complaint. They do not have a good system of notification when an issue is resolved. It leaves us guessing and considering looking at different vendors for a similar product.

It's just so easy!

5.0 last year

Comments: I honestly love it. We use it for board and supervisory committee meetings. It's a great way to organize reports and get a lot of information out to multiple people. Our commercial team uses it for gathering loan documents. We use the resource section a lot to store important documents so people can easily find what they need without having to figure out which meeting it was a part of. OnBoard makes my job so much easier!

Pros:

What I like most is how easy it is to create an agenda and add documents. And if something needs to be swapped out last minute, it's not a problem at all. The process is so fast.

Cons:

If a PDF is created from a Goolge document, OnBoard won't accept it. Sometimes I'll put everything in the packet and click on 'Open Book' and an error pops up saying that it failed. Then I have to remove each PDF one by one until I discover which one is the problem. Sometimes that has been time consuming; however, my company is transitioning to only using Microsoft so it's been less of a problem lately.

Streamline Management with Boards and Committees

5.0 last year

Comments: Customer service and onboarding are great. Our board and staff like the way it streamlines everything. It saves me hours of prep work for meetings, by not having to format my own agenda or information packets for each meeting.

Pros:

Meeting management through OnBoard is much more efficient than calendar invites and emails. Building the agenda is easy, and the board book it creates puts everything in one, professional-looking document. Communication with different groups through the messenger is also a time-saving feature. Eliminates group emails and makes it easy to find past conversations and information when needed.

Cons:

It would be nice to be able to delete messages and clean up the messenger section. Also, the permissions feature is great but we often forget that you have to apply permissions to each meeting, file sharing, etc. Would be nice to have that pop up as a reminder.

Excellent system for board management

5.0 last year

Comments: Our experience has been excellent. The learning curve is short and the feedback from board members has been very favorable. They express that they like the fact that all organizational information can be found in the portal.

Pros:

Being able to have a single portal to manage meetings, documents, and communication among board members are among the strongest aspects of OnBoard.

Cons:

The biggest challenge is adoption of the system by your board. Some will be intimidated because it is cloud based but even the most reluctant have been able to easily use the platform.

Best for professional use.

4.0 last year

Comments: From the first sales interactions through the customer feedback meetings, I have only had excellent experiences with OnBoard. The product has performed extremely well for us, and the customer service has been excellent. The time spent creating paper packs has been significantly decreased, and it has been very helpful in meetings.

Pros:

A word document may be used to create the agenda, Zoom links can be viewed from the OnBoard, the calendar has been updated, and there is a Resource Library. friendly to users. Continuously adding new features, updates, and enhancements. Integration went smoothly.

Cons:

In comparison to other well-known board pack software, OnBoard operates a little bit differently, so customers who are accustomed to other types may require more assistance to get acclimated to it. Because they are a little too subtle, upload failure notifications can be overlooked if you are working quickly.

Pros:

Cons:

User interface could be done better and appealing, such as icons and images. Logging in sometimes took time and had to try a few times.

Essential Software for Board Meetings

5.0 5 years ago

Comments: I have been using OnBoard shortly after I started with this company in late 2016. I believe the software was being converted from an older, original product to the OnBoard that I currently use today. There have been many updates along the way. My favorite was the ability to use the software on either Apple or Android cell phones. We recently upgraded our package to include Global Admin with the new Analytics feature. Two years ago, we looked into a few different products to compare cost and features. In the end we decided to stay with OnBoard because the program does everything we need (and then some) for our board meetings. The cost of the software to be very competitive with others. The members of our board find it effective and very easy to use. This makes my life much easier!

Pros:

There are several things I like about the software. One of the features we like is the ability to use the software on both Apple and Android devices. If I ever need help with the software, I can easily find help through the Help Center and there are Admin Guides. When a new member joins our Board - no problem! There is a User Guide to help get them up to speed very quickly. Should there be another issue that I cannot resolve, I have found the staff at OnBoard very helpful in resolving any issue that I come across (which are very few and far between!) I also like the opportunity for additional learning via Webinars. We are updated when the offices at OnBoard will be closed or whenever there is an update on the way. The communication is above and beyond. Putting together an Agenda for a board meeting is very easy to do. I am finding the agenda import to be a big time saver. Our board enjoys the ability to make annotations during our board meetings.

Cons:

My least favorite thing about this software is the need to have a "Global Admin" upgrade in order to delete things from the portal that a previous employee had created and was no longer needed/outdated. It is unfortunate that the Messenger feature is not included in our package and this would require another upgrade. That being said, however, there are many updates to the software that do not cost extra. I don't want to give the impression that every update costs extra, because that would not be accurate. In case you are wondering - we did decide to upgrade during a year-end special to include the Global Admin product and Analytics feature which we are enjoying very much.

Alternatives Considered: MyBoardPacket

Reasons for Switching to OnBoard: We originally used the predecessor software to OnBoard. After using OnBoard for about a year or so, we decided to take a look at a few other options. One I remembered was MyBoardPacket. It was definately a nice product and easy to use from what I could tell. The reason we stayed with OnBoard was becasue it did EVERYTHING we needed and our board members liked the software and there was no need for them to learn how to use something else. It ended up being a win-win all the way around!

OnBoard Response

Thank you for taking the time to review OnBoard! I'm so glad this is making your life easier and that you decided to stick it out with us. We truly appreciate the feedback about the various packages, and I will bring that up to Management as something to consider.

Continue to be pleased with the purchase

5.0 3 years ago

Comments: I've had an ideal customer experience with OnBoard! From sales to training to implementation ([SENSITIVE CONTENT] is awesome) to maintenance stage and IT needs. Improvements are continually coming. A very responsive team when it comes to questions or the occasional internet glitch. Great online resources for training, learning and best practices, in addition to live help.

Pros:

Ease of use, organization, look, security, customer service, always open to ideas and making improvements, analytics.

Cons:

Minutes builder and surveys could be improved. The ability to add custom fields to profile would be nice.

Alternatives Considered: Diligent Boards and Boardable

Reasons for Choosing OnBoard: Made the switch when our contract ended with The Governance Institute. Researched several products and OnBoard offered the functionality we needed at a price point we could manage with pandemic unknowns.

Upgrading our Board Management software to achieve greater engagement

5.0 3 years ago

Comments: Experience has been excellent. The quality of the product is high, and the customer support superb. We were aiming to create a true board portal that is the first place the member go when they want information, through the resources, tasks functionality. Too much back and forth emailing of information was occurring. We wanted to change the way the board worked, and needed the best technology as a platform for enforcing such change.

Pros:

The rich functionality of OnBoard, compared to our prior solution, sold us. A bit more expensive, but worth it. Since we are being force to transition to a new platform by our prior provider, we used the opportunity to license a best of breed solution, where the employees are clearly committed to their products.

Cons:

There was a bit of learning curve, especially with the Member database, establishing groups, and roles, etc..

Great software to organize meetings and to get everyone on track!

5.0 2 years ago

Comments: Excellent experience with the software as well as the support. Great team, great job. Easy to use platform.

Pros:

OnBoard hosts a lot of features common to typical collaborative platforms but what makes it better is the flexibility and the efficiency with which it enables us to complete our tasks. Uploading multiple file formats viewable for everyone in the meeting, reminding people to vote without admin interference, smooth onboarding of users and just the overall user interface is excellent. No qualms getting even the least tech-savvy user to engage on the platform since everything is pretty simple.

Cons:

Nothing much. There could be more formatting options available for communication. I heard they are adding Office 365 integration soon, which would make it much more easier!

Boost Your Team Collaboration with OnBoard

5.0 2 years ago

Comments: OnBoard has helped my team streamline our meeting agendas, note-taking, and follow-up tasks. Its real-time collaboration feature has been a game changer, reducing the need for endless email threads and multiple versions of documents. While there is a learning curve, the customizable templates and integrations with other tools make OnBoard a central hub for our team's collaboration needs.

Pros:

OnBoard's templates are easy to customize, which saves time and allows for consistency. It's easy to add notes, comments and tasks to each item. Its real-time collaboration feature means that my team can work together on the same document at the same time, reducing the need for multiple rounds of edits. OnBoard's integrations with other tools such as Slack and Google Drive make it a central hub for our team's communication and collaboration needs.

Cons:

While OnBoard is an excellent tool, the learning curve for new users can be steep. Some of the more advanced features, such as creating custom templates, take time to learn. The tool can also be slow to load when opening larger documents.

OnBoard - A Great Product for Board Management

4.0 3 years ago

Comments: I love the ease of use and structure/organization that OnBoard helps our organization obtain. It has made meeting materials and meeting structure so much easier. I love that all the features are readily available in one place. I would recommend this product to other orgs but noting that it is fairly costly for a not for profit.

Pros:

As an organization we set up at least 3-4 meetings a month and it has really helped to streamline our process. Everything is now in one place. We also use the survey tool monthly and appreciate it's ease of use.

Cons:

Approvals could be easier to use. I don't love that when changes are made in the back end sometimes it affects permissions that were set up long before hand. If you made an upgrade our board directors should still be able to access their usual meetings.

Alternatives Considered: Boardable

Reasons for Switching to OnBoard: Clean presentation, ease of use,

OnBoard Provides Ease of Access and Security for Board of Trustees

4.0 3 years ago

Comments: Regardless of our board desiring to maintain an in-person meeting format coming out of the pandemic, we are still utilizing the benefits of OnBoard for material distribution, highlighting important information, maintaining current contact details and up-to-date calendar information for upcoming meetings. OnBoard has been a huge support to our Board of Trustees.

Pros:

I am constantly impressed with OnBoard and their continuous improvements. We implemented OnBoard prior to COVID shutting us down and were so thankful to have the technology to enable us to share materials and conduct elections and receive approvals all online. The time this system has saved us is tremendous, but the ease access and security of materials online has been even greater. Trustees can now take action on items while traveling using a phone, tablet or computer without waiting for a package to be delivered. Meeting materials can also be reviewed and stored online providing easy access to current agendas as well as past meeting reference of actions and materials. Binders are not left behind on tables, pages are not lost and we have confidence in the security of the materials online.

Cons:

The challenge for us with OnBoard is simply the fact that we want all of the features and yet because of recent financial challenges that our university has faced we are holding tight to budget dollars and maintaining what we have with OnBoard which is still so much better than nothing! We dream of the future capabilities as there is so much to offer any company.

OnBoard is worth the expense

4.0 3 years ago

Comments: Having a single location to allow for collaboration without having to use Dropbox, Messages, iChat, Google Docs, etc. makes a meeting go so much smoother. And I no longer need to print out hundreds of pages of documents for in-hand. And the Board members feel secure with the privacy and security that this system affords them.

Pros:

This management software, now that I, as an administrator, have gone through the training, is easy to manage and easy to access from the board member's perspective. It provides shortcuts that allow for easy use, especially as it relates to minutes. I can create templates that shortens the administrative time needed.

Cons:

There are some features to which one needs to adapt, but the team is very responsive to needs and offers the best work around for your particular needs.

Ascentis Review

5.0 2 years ago

Comments: Fantastic, rapid and reliable customer service from the team, especially Bob!
- Efficient use of time - no printing and posting packs of papers
- Less time is needed to format and release, therefore the reports are much more current than previously
- More Eco- friendly! - no more printing!
- Accessibility - can read reports on the move, via phone, tablet or laptop

Pros:

Good integration and user-friendly, similar to MS products which is good. The onboarding process went well, especially with the training for myself and our trustees who aren't very tech-savvy. I like how I can use this on my laptop, iPad and phone - all apps work very well. Main things I like: - user friendly - automation of reminders/RSVP - collation of papers into a pack and access to download (can use without internet) - timings - good indication for the team and the Chair - much more efficient use of time and focus - ability to move the agenda around and subtitles format - looks professional

Cons:

Not much really! two things for me: - integrations of MS Teams (not Zoom) - permissions for new trustees (new trustees should not have access to previous papers, or there at least should be an option) Apart from that, I love OnBoard!

OnBoard has significantly changed how we do business.

5.0 3 years ago

Comments: We love that all of our documentation, voting, and board business is located in one place. We have two boards, plus numerous board committees. OnBoard makes it easy for us to access the information, in real-time, and we can direct our board members/volunteers where to go in the system instead of trying to locate the information and hope an e-mail goes through because the document was too large to send via e-mail.

Pros:

The features I love the most are the agenda and minutes builder. Previously it would take us an hour just to build out the agenda or minutes because of all the attachments/appendices needed for each document. When changes were needed, you would have to update the entire document and all of the attachment/appendix labels - which is another savings of at least 30 minutes to an hour for each board meeting.

Cons:

What I like least are the glitches that keep occurring while in the system. I get kicked out of Minutes Builder - while doing my minutes in the middle of a board meeting, from time to time items won't save or the system will tell me that I don't have permission and it kicks me out of what I was working on. I will say this is not as often as it used to be but is still a bug that needs to get corrected.

Great service!

5.0 3 years ago

Comments: OnBoard has been easy to use and greatly appreciated by our Trustees. They love how easy it is to find documents, and can't believe they can have all the meeting materials at their finger tips so readily. Gone are the days of paper agendas and packets of meeting materials.

Pros:

OnBoard is really easy to use. Everything is at your finger tips, and the meeting book is extremely helpful for our busy Trustees. The OnBoard support team is fantastic, and when you have a question or issue, you receive help right away.

Cons:

I really wish there was an easier way to enter in meetings. Most of our meetings are recurring monthly, and I wish there was a way to create a recurrence feature so that I'm not having to create each meeting individually.
