About Square Point of Sale
Square POS is the customizable point-of-sale system built for businesses of all shapes and sizes.
The cost was great for me to start out. It was very easy to train staff on the system as well.
It was a little confusing to get started because we were using a mobile device.

Software of the future!!
Comments: Before Square I had sleepless nights, no time with my children, no me time and I was always worried that I was missing something pertaining to my business. When I was introduced to Square my life has forever changed. My smile returned and my children have their mom back!!
Pros:
As a single mother of 5 I live a hectic and stressful life. With Square point of sale I can focus more on my family since I know I have a software that practically runs my business for me.
Cons:
I have nothing negative to say except why wasn’t this software around a lot sooner.
Used for over a decade
Comments: Great! I've used Square for over a decade. They are always looking for ways to improve and hold a lot of various beta testing you can join.
Pros:
Easy to use. Customer service is great. Free app.
Cons:
No weekend phone support or chat support. They had it prior to covid but not after.
Alternatives Considered:
Square has potential to be great
Comments: Square POS is actually a little complex to build out of you dont have a background in software or IT. For our coffee shops we use alot of modifiers and variations, so it is difficult to sink up the modifiers with the optons if you are building out for the first time. If you are a business without the modifiers it will be much easier.
Pros:
Square POS does exactly what any POS system should do. You upload your items for sale, and you can take payments on your phone, your square reader, or ipad.
Cons:
Square Outages are the absolute worst and they are more frequent than anything. they have put my business at a stand still at least once per quarter. We have had to switch to "off line" mode which also wasnt working. We are a coffee shop and most of our sales are from 7am-9am. We have lost so much money from the outages and good luck getting anyone from customer service. It's non-existent. PLUS the fees you pay are astronomical.
Alternatives Considered:
Couldn't do without Square
Comments: Overall I really can not complain as it provides a simple to use, valuable tool for both small and larger businesses alike
Pros:
As a small business owner Square is a fabulous tool to be able to take credit card payments, create invoices, and so much more. I honestly don't know what I'd do without it.
Cons:
Sometimes, especially when using the desktop (I'm primarily on the app on my phone) it's harder to find things as it doesn't seem to be set up quite the same as the app.
Great product with many features
Comments: Great for everything from credit card processing to reports
Pros:
Great way to offer credit card processing in multiple ways
Cons:
Nothing about this product everything is wonderful
Be Square or Beware
Comments: I've used Square in a few different roles, primarily in Food Service. I've cashiered and waited using the service.
Pros:
It provides an easy-to-learn, snappy interface which beats the pants off of most others.
Cons:
Updates are harrowing and usually cause a fair number of hiccups.
Square just works
Comments: Overall positive. Makes it easy to make and manage sales.
Pros:
Ease of use. Easier to find items and process sales
Cons:
Cost is a little much considering you are paying them for processing also
Very Happy
Comments: Overall I am very happy with Square. I would recommend it to all my crafty people who work at markets selling their hand-made goods.
Pros:
I am so happy I discovered square. I don't have the actual card reader, I just use the online payment option. This has been a game changer for my small business. If we are at trade shows/craft fairs, people can now pay with card. I could not even count how many times I miss out on the sale because people are not carrying enough cash. It is so easy to put in the sale amount, enter their card details and complete the sale. The money can be transferred to me in a day or two. Not bad fee either. Very reasonable.
Cons:
I would say the only thing I wish would be better is having a faster turn around time to have the money in my bank account. It is still very reasonable, but same day would be better.
Easy to use
Comments: Very easy to navigate and use and makes having a small business a breeze.
Pros:
It's easy to set up and add your inventory. So when you process a sale it adds the product and set price.
Cons:
I haven't found any cons yet. Everything have run smoothly.
Easy to use POS for small business
Comments: I've used Square over the years to send online invoices to clients, connect it to my website for payment and occasionally in-person transactions when needed.
Pros:
Super easy to use and set up for my small photography business.
Cons:
I really don't have any cons for Square to run transactions-it's just simple to use.
Happy to return
Comments: Excellent, again Ive missed them. Again being able to customize pretty much everything keeps everything will organize. Separate location separate deposit separate cards everything is kept separate like totally different business but still one
Pros:
Came back to them after about a yr. It's really convenient the many types of ways you can still tend to your customer. From contactless, keypad on the app, hand held. And the customization without the confusion. In addition afterpay with cash app, with your own square card. Ive missed u
Cons:
Security is a bit overboard, but as with PayPal
Easy to train and use for high volume
Comments: We have used square in a high volume music venue for shows and events. We have also used square and the square team for high volume music festivals. We can implement this for the box office as well as the bar sales, while pulling live reports to see how inventory is moving and track sales trends throughout the event.
Pros:
I like how intuitive it is for any new user. Having multiple screens easily navigable is helpful in high volume bar sales.
Cons:
Setting up new items and inputting them into a proper category can be lengthy to keep them organized and not having too many "type" of items. If you do not do this process 100% in the first step then your inventory will get out of control very fast.
Loving Square Point of Sale
Comments: Overall very positive, and I recommend to anyone that does electronic sales/needs a terminal that I come in contact with on a day-to-day basis.
Pros:
Square Point of Sale has been very easy to use, easy to integrate and wonderful for keeping track of day-to-day sales. Very low customer complaints, and no problems during in-person sales. Hand-held device is very convenient, easy to transport and take to different locations
Cons:
Given the NYS laws, and how/what our orders are, we are not a fan of the $0.x cent charge per order- would be much easier to just have the flat percentage. Also given the nature of our business, would be helpful to have a straight charge, not different for "card present" or not.
system outages are the real problem
Comments: i would love square if it weren't for the system-wide outages that are becoming more frequent. i'm not considering another pos system.
Pros:
square is so easy to use. and it's ubiquitous.
Cons:
square goes down, and we lose sales and tips, and square does not compensate its users for losses
Alternatives Considered:
Square Point of Sale is Reliable and Easy to Use, But Beware
Comments: Our overall experience with Square POS was either one extreme or the other. We were reasonably happy customers for four years, minimal complaints, and then dumped on our butts without warning. Three years earlier we were contacted by Square POS and asked to remove glass product from our POS, and we complied, so I'm honestly not sure why, years later, as loyal customers we weren't even given the courtesy of a phone call or email explaining what the issue actually was.
Pros:
Our setup was Square POS for the brick & mortar piece of our store, then we had another software acting as our master of inventory between our store, and website, which was hosted on a different, more robust ecommerce platform than Square. I feel it's fair to say that Square kept its promise in terms of its uptime, and ease of use. We rarely had issue with Square POS being down, though it did happen for a few hours here and there, but again, well within their uptime promise.
Cons:
What did I like least about Square POS? That would be the time Square, with zero notice, pulled the plug on our store and website as a credit card processor, leaving us without any modern way to process payments. Customer service IS part of the deal, right? Well, when I contacted Square about this, I was not given a reason, or the ability to appeal the decision. I was simply told to move on to a different solution, and no further information would be provided.
Alternatives Considered:
Satisfied Customer very user friendly and up to date
Comments: over all i think its a great product and we realistically dont have any complaints.
Pros:
I love that it is again very user friendly and the processing fees are low and the processing speed is fast.
Cons:
I dont like that you cant go back and look at a last name from the card used in processing of a payment u would have to go on line and do 4 different steps if you needed to clarify an error .
Square Point of Sale helps you manage your daily operations
Comments: Square Point of Sale made managing my daily sales items sold reporting, sales-tax, tips, and credit card sales a very easy task. Monthly and annual reports were also easy to review which mad tax reporting easier.
Pros:
I like the option of the menu where you can have specific items on the screen rather than having to scroll through a list. Also using the options worked great for my coffee shop. I could press the Latte button, and had all the options including add-on prices automatically add without having to add up the cost and then enter the price.
Cons:
I would like the option of more, but smaller buttons on the main menu. I had discount buttons also programmed (teacher’s and police) because I was near a school and gave teachers a 10% discount, and also gave uniformed police and firefighters a 30% discount, which took two product items off the main menu.
Alternatives Considered:
Easy to use and navigate
Comments: Very easy to setup and use. My staff learned how to navigate it in one training session.
Pros:
Square was easy to use and easy to setup.
Cons:
At this time I do not have anything that I do not like about Square.
Square Handles Your POS Transactions
Comments: Everything is at your fingertips. Customers aren’t waiting long to complete their sale. I like the options of providing them with their receipt.
Pros:
It’s fast and easy to use. Your product inventory, including pictures of your products is right there to ensure accuracy. You can take it with you.
Cons:
I haven’t had a bad experience. It does what I need it to do.
Alternatives Considered:
Use Square for ease of payments
Comments: Wonderful! Square is super easy for our families and our front desk staff to manage.
Pros:
Square is simple! You can take it anywhere, and is user-friendly.
Cons:
The customer support is sometimes slow. However, once you are able to connect they are always very helpful.
My only POS
Comments: Overall I enjoy using Squares point of sale when taking payments from customers. It is user friendly and customers love it.
Pros:
I love being able to take electronic payments when I am at events selling my work.
Cons:
Sometimes the POS is delayed when there is not a good connection. I would love for it to still work as great in an offline mode outside of typing customers' information.
Allows us a self service POS
Comments: Extremely happy with Square as a POS. We use it daily and have had no issues. It was easy to set up and is very uset friendly. The mount is a sleek design and we get a lot of compliments on how easy the system is to use. We wouldn't be able to accept credit card without Square
Pros:
We use Square along with another app as our self-serve POS system. We use the wall mounted kiosk which makes it easy for our customers. Square is extremely easy to use and works wonderfully for us. I love how we can see our sales numbers easily from the app. Our customers have been thrilled with the option to use their credit/debit cards and we have noticed an increase in sales.
Cons:
I wish there were more options for reports. I would like to be able to quickly grab data but there aren't very many options available for this. It would also be helpful to have reports able to be curated and saved in the Square app. We log in from multiple devices, so the ability to pull a record for a certain time frame and save it for easy access, would be helpful.
Invaluable service
Comments: I wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy. They're cuurently holding funds, while constantly trying to draw from my account, claiming I owe them money, but give no proof. Customer service claims they can't give me answers for lack of access to account information. They claimed they escalated, but never heard from them, while they continue to try and draft my account.
Pros:
It's something you can use to help get the ball rolling with your business
Cons:
Hidden fees and probably the most poor customer service I've dealt with in a very long time. Heavily loacking communication
Best payment processing system
Comments: 5 stars! I have used a few different processing companies but none compare to square.
Pros:
I love that square offers personalized loans directly through the terminal. No credit checks required, as it is based off your sales.
Cons:
I have no compalints. Everything is user friendly, and competitive rates.
Square - DR
Comments: great, easy to use and have been using Square for over 8 years
Pros:
easy to use, can use with iPad as well, great for tradeshows when we promote our business and sell products
Cons:
the fees can be a little high, no other complaints at this time
