SDH/SONET
Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) and Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) are widely used communication protocols. They are used for the high-speed transmission of voice and data signals across worldwide fiber optic networks. SDH/SONET use LEDs or lasers to send a binary stream of light pulses to optical sensors at the receiving end. SDH is an ITU-T (Telecommunication Standardization Sector of the International Telecommunications Union) standard. SONET is a standard used in the United States.
What Small and Midsize Businesses Need to Know About SDH/SONET
Small businesses are likely to use SONET or SDH in a slew of different data transmission activities such as . phone, internet access, and the sending of digital information. This technology enables the reliable exchange of information and helps create a more level playing field by allowing small businesses to have the same type of access to high-speed digital exchange as their larger counterparts.
